The Longest Day in Paradise
Nyepi is the New Year's day of Saka for Hindus. It comes in the ninth month of the Saka year and mostly takes place in March or in the beginning of April.
One night before Nyepi, Ogoh-Ogoh, the giant dolls made up mainly from bamboo and the cement sacks symbolizing the demons and the evil spirits, are carried around throughout the neighborhood in order to chase away the evil spirits before entering the New Year.
On the Nyepi Day, the activities in all over the Island is stopped for all day long. No body are allowed to go out of their house. Some hotels are only allowed to hold inbound activities, within the minimized lights and noises, and the guests are asked to stay inside the hotel. The airport is totally closed and there is neither arrival nor departure in the airport on that day.
